As you probably know, your smile can lead to a great first impression or a disappointing one. For this reason—along with a variety of others—Americans spend millions of dollars every year on teeth whitening.
Unfortunately, if you don’t care for your smile well after it is whitened, you could quickly find yourself unhappy with your results again. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to avoid this problem. To help you keep your smile as white as possible, we’re happy to discuss a few things you can do—and a few things you should avoid.
Arguably, the most important thing you can do is avoid smoking. Similarly, there are certain staining foods that you should avoid eating. For example, please avoid hard candies—especially the kind that stains your mouth or your tongue. Also, foods like cherries, blueberries, and beets. After you eat, please remember to brush your teeth.
While there are many foods you should stay away from, some drinks can also stain your smile. If you can’t simply quit these drinks—which could be difficult since they include soda, juice, coffee, and red wines—you should use a straw. You see, the longer your teeth are exposed to these drinks, the more likely they are to stain your pearly whites. Using a straw will reduce exposure time.
